About this deal

This fantastic guide to menstruation is the perfect way to learn more about the human body and how periods impact far more than we realize. Striking the perfect balance between research and accessibility, this book will have you saying, 'Wow, I had no idea!' at least once per chapter. * BookRiot *

Overall though, I think every menstruator should take a go at this book, if not for the explanation instead for the reasons to begin respecting and tuning in with a cycle that brings immensely valuable wisdom to the table. The book also caters to overarching menstruators, so the language is thoughtful and inclusive for those with a more complex relationship with the cycle. This book] made me want to send Marvel my period schedule ... Can I do stunts around this time, please? * Jameela Jamil *So, can you see how powerful just knowing this is? How this knowledge will increase the level of compassion that you have for yourself. I’m really into increasing self-compassion, and it’s a theme we will return to repeatedly on this podcast.

I know that some of you will be in the early stages of perimenopause and trying to conceive. And thinking about it, one of my clients has just started using progesterone to improve her perimenopausal symptoms. And her GP actually cautioned her that her fertility could increase, so, to be careful and use contraception. To harness your “period power,” you just have to become familiar with the science behind your menstrual cycle, as well as the strengths and challenges that accompany each stage. By learning to go with the flow – quite literally – you’ll be able to access a power you never knew you possessed.Day one is the first day of your cycle, and it’s also the first day of your period. Now, I get a lot of messages from people asking me what counts as day one. So, in case you’re wondering that, here you go. It’s the first day that you experience significant blood loss. It doesn’t matter what time of day. Okay? So many of us have a Jekyll and Hyde experience of our lives; we feel on top of the world, capable, confident and sexy for part of each month, then find ourselves in a state of physical and emotional discomfort and fatigue, wanting nothing more than to collapse on the sofa in front of Netflix. But what if instead of just trying to plan for our dark days, women were equipped with ways to improve them? What if our desire to improve ourselves could be combined with our need to know just what our womb and ovaries are getting up to every month? Not to mention how to take advantage of the natural superpowers that sit in each phase of our cycle, so that we can plan our month to perform at our best. So, let’s take a moment to stop and think about what the ultimate aim of the cycle is. It’s reproduction, right? The menstrual cycle and our hormones benefit us in all sorts of ways. But I think that we can all agree that the main purpose of the cycle is to end up creating a new human being. Its aim is for you to conceive and reproduce, regardless of whether that’s something we actually want or not. That’s what it’s there to do. This revolutionary book reveals everything you need to know about taking control of your menstrual cycle and outlines The Cycle Strategy to help us perform at our best, throughout our cycle. In Period Power you will discover how to:

First it states that not all women bleed and not all females born with an womb needs to have kids.Sexuality is a choice. We need to respect that.I liked that part. Maisie Hill has written a bloody brilliant book (pun intended). Everything you need to know about periods and how they affect you and your life is here. It's revolutionary' - Miranda Sawyer A detailed guide to what happens to our bodies as part of the monthly cycle, and how to cope with whatever feelings or sensations arise. An essential bible. * The Scotsman magazine * Perimenopause is the timeframe before menopause when you still experience a cycle but are starting to notice a difference in terms of length, experience and symptoms. It can be a hugely challenging time, but it is a window of opportunity to look at your health, life, and to make powerful decisions about what you want and need.

And to be honest with you, that’s exactly how I feel about the main pieces of research around HRT which were done over 20 years ago now but which newspaper headlines are still largely based on. What a load of nonsense. So the whole HRT is dangerous, I’m saying that’s false. So this woman read the guidelines and when her GP suggested more blood tests she was able to say, “Look, I think I meet the criteria, this is what the NICE guidelines say.” And because of that she was just referred to a menopause clinic. And I will link to the NICE guidelines in the show notes so that you can read them too and perhaps take them into your appointments if you’re having any discussions with GPs or other healthcare professionals. There are lots of reasons why mental health can suffer in midlife. Some of it will be to do with changing hormone levels and the resulting influence on other chemicals in the brain. These are the physiological reasons that can impact on things like mood, anxiety, motivation, your ability to focus and things like memory recall and cognition. So it can be a time where there is less resilience because of the hormonal changes that are taking place. But this is also a phase in life in which we are usually stretched and the past year will have done so even more I suspect for many of you. Welcome to the Period Power podcast. I’m your host Maisie Hill menstrual health expert, acupuncturist, certified life coach and author of Period Power. I’m on a mission to help you get your cycle working for you so that you can use it to get what you want out of life. Are you ready? Let’s go.
