Interesting to see that they covered “Swords” in the encore, because every time I’ve heard the chorus of Token Covid Song, I’ve expected it to end in the chorus of “Swords”.

It should be mentioned that the epic Van der Graaf Generator walk-on music was actually John Peel’s theme music for ‘Sounds of the Seventies'(and indeed the theme music of other R1 presenters of the same show). As it was basically written by George Martin for R1, it was also sometimes used by other R1 shows as a bed (by Tommy Vance, for example?) but I can find no record of it ever being used as a TV theme. The venue itself was a little soulless, with ridiculously pricey beer, but you couldn’t fault the sound quality at all. Superb support from The Hitchers, as confirmed by so many others on here. A joy to hear ‘Strachan’ in a live environment.Third time hearing Oblong live and first time I didn’t sob like a babba at the end. Might be all cried out with the week I’ve had.
Alison arrived with Andy, who was at his first HMHB show. There was an error in the Bristol review, where I referred to Mrs Bad Loser. Her name is Lyn. If required, I will correct the spelling next time. Maybe there’s another “n”? When inside the venue, a lot of the regulars dropped by to say Hello: Andrew, Steve A, Chris, Peter, John B, Paul, Andy, Brian and Ian from Humdrum Express with his mate Steph. Ian told me he has a book coming out at some point. Not sure if it’s going to be ready for Christmas. Maybe for my birthday next year Fantastic news! I had my ‘Best of Biscuits’ compilation on in the car the other day and the kids were going on about when I’d take them to their first gig again – still too young I fear but a new album will please them no end… Looking forward to the deciphering the lyrics posts almost as much as the songs themselves… Old Tige- thanks for the beer.I know you turned one down at the show but next time you’re over…and I hope United treat you to a performance as good as the band did. If that is true, I will follow that musical vein as far as it goes. David M (Post 107) : Couldn’t agree more about wanting the band to play in Ireland – Wexford for preference, but Dublin or Cork would be grand. In the meantime, I’ve been spending a bit of time this weekend planning another trip on the ferry to Wales for the next Cardiff gig where I’ll be meeting mates from Bristol and Bradford for the gig. With the new album duly memorised!

The number 5 bus goes to Wrexham, the T3 goes to either Wrexham or Barmouth (where the bathing is safe) depending on which way it’s facing. I’m pretty sure Neil’s intro to ‘Awkward Sean’ wasn’t from ‘Ships in the Night’, but what it was from I couldn’t say. After four decades, Neil is still easing his way into the band. He got mixed up between the opening notes of Oblong Of Dreams and When I Look At My Baby, playing one while the rest of the band was playing the other.
