I got a free copy of this from Chronicle Books in my #ChronicleCrush box and didn't give it enough attention at first. I had seen it in Shelf Awareness and now here it was mixed in with a cookbook and a history book, so I had been under the assumption all along that this was some experimental creativity-boosting project for adults. I wish I had actually read it sooner instead of just flipping through! She giggled as the dog started running but couldn’t go anywhere. Its legs were moving, but on the ice, its feet just kept on sliding over the same spot. “Josh, you have to see this,” she called out. But there was no reply. We covered a small canvas with strips of red, yellow and blue crepe paper (making sure that there were some overlaps). Then we squirted the paper with water and waited. The second picture shows how the paperlooked after half an hour, the third picture shows the paper after leaving it overnight. We removed the paper to see how the colourshad mixed (my daughter thinks that it looks like sunset over the sea).I am bored! I don’t have any new books to read. I am bored! My Mom is listening to the news on the radio and they are talking about the low temperatures and the surprise winter storm that is moving in. After cleaning up, we sat down and named the colors we had created. I just love the names they came up with- “Happy Day”, “Stormy Night”, and “Dolphin” were a few of my favorites! First we filled a shallow bowl with milk then dropped three drops of liquid red food colouring slightly away fromthe centre of the bowl. Then we added three drops of blue and three drops of yellow so that the colours formed a triangle. It was fascinating watching the colours move butit took a while for them to really mix together. Did we miss something on diversity?

I don't want to compare Mix it Up to Press Here, but because it's the same type of book, by the same author, there are some parallels I will comment on. After we had tried outall the color mixing demonstrated in the book, I let the kids mix all on their own. Students that enjoy painting or art in general will enjoy learning their colors with this book. As well as, students that are more kinesthetic learners. I can’t even listen to music. I am bored … bored …… bored! I said aloud. ‘Sally,’ my Mom called out. ‘If you are so bored why don’t you draw a picture or color?’ \"I can’t,\" I said. \"I am out of paper.” This book is a part of a series Herve Tullet created with his interactive color dots. He originally wrote “Press Here”, which teaches children their colors in an interactive story.

Hot Cocoa – Directions In a medium size pot mix together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Stir in water. Cook over medium heat and stir it constantly until it starts to boil. Continue stirring mixture for another 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. Add milk and stir constantly until hot but do not boil. Remove from heat, add the vanilla, and whisk until foamy. Pour into your favorite mugs, serve, and enjoy. I think I’ll make the Southern Belle hot cocoa, topped with vanilla ice cream, and use a candy cane stirrer.” She said to herself. This is our third Herve book we've added to our collection (Press Here and The Scribble Book.) We really enjoy the interactive style he uses in his books, to encourage kids to participate in the story as it goes along. This color mixing activity was an absolute hit. Both Theo and Lucy have already mentioned more than once they want to do it again!
