Printout: FBI releases sketch of Gina DeJesus' alleged kidnapper". WKYC. April 15, 2005 . Retrieved May 13, 2013.I have such admiration for how resilient all three of these girls are, and how incredibly open and generous and forgiving they all seem to be towards each other and towards what happened to them. The fact that these horrific things happen are just--unimaginable to me, but hearing these stories of survival are both touching and awe-inspiring. Michelle's life even before she was kidnapped was filled with hardship. She had to survive poverty, sexual abuse, and be a caretaker to her younger siblings while growing up. If you followed the case then you already know that the monster who did this killed himself not long after being sentenced to life on parole and pleading guilty. The fact that he killed himself rather than facing a life in jail, is really frustrating and makes me angry. But if Michelle can find forgiveness for him, then I find comfort in knowing that they are all alive and free. Gray, Madison (May 7, 2013). "Found: Timeline of Ohio Women Missing Since 2002". Time. I do have a bit of a problem with Michelle's story in it saying part of it has been fictionalized. HOWEVE I'm glad Michelle allowed us to share the parts of her captivity that she could bear to share. Eleven years is an eternity when you are being systematically abused both physically and mentally. Amanda and Michelle were chained together and forcefully raped, experiencing their own pain and each other's. Michelle was starved and beaten so that she would miscarry each of her five pregnancies. Amanda had a daughter who brought a little light to utter darkness. Delusional Ariel thought that he could be a good father, take her out in public and even talked about gaining custody after the girls were freed.

Retrieved May 13, 2013. Some of Castro's family members disowned him and denounced his actions and apologized to the victims and their families. [140] [141] [142] [143] [144] [145] [146] After reading this I felt completely depleted. This was the first time I've ever felt like that. To have read such horrific actions, indescribable feelings and such heartfelt thoughts through the actual victims experience...heartbreaking. I constantly felt for Michelle. Amanda Marie Berry (born April 22, 1986) disappeared on April 21, 2003, the day before her 17th birthday. [44] She was last heard from around 8:00 p.m. when she called her sister to tell her that she was getting a ride home from her job at a Burger King at the corner of Lorain Ave & W. 110th St. [19] The FBI initially considered her a runaway until a week after her disappearance, when an unidentified male used her cell phone to call her mother. He said: "I have Amanda. She's fine and will be coming home in a couple of days". [45] [46] To heal. I'd like you to get your stomach sorted. I'd like you to be healthy, physically and mentally. I hope you can fulfil your dream. I don't know whether it will be running a restaurant or singing, but I know you've got the confidence and discipline to do it. But it will be a lot of hard work." Jones, tough, polished and immaculate, starts to wobble. She dabs her eyes.

Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, Michelle Knight in Cleveland: Frequently asked questions". The Plain Dealer. May 9, 2013. Archived from the original on May 10, 2013 . Retrieved May 13, 2013. The question I keep asking Knight is how she kept going. She says she tried not to wake up in the mornings. She wouldn't get up until Castro bullied her out of bed. "I felt that me living in that house, everything was frozen. The only thing moving was the outside world. There was no reason to wake up, no reason to talk." Often she'd pretend to be asleep. He constantly taunted her: about her looks, about the fact that nobody was looking for her. Robert Wolford was a prison inmate who had lived in Tremont, and he claimed in July 2012 that he had information about the location of Berry's body. He led police to an empty lot on Cleveland's West Side, where they conducted a fruitless search. [47] [58] He was sentenced in January 2013 to 4 + 1⁄ 2 years in prison for obstruction of justice, making a false report, and making a false alarm. On July 12, a Cuyahoga County grand jury returned a true bill of indictment for the remainder of the period after February 2007. It brought the total to 977 counts: 512 counts of kidnapping, 446 of rape, seven of gross sexual imposition, six of felonious assault, three of child endangerment, two of aggravated murder, and one of possession of criminal tools. [113] On July 17, Castro pleaded not guilty to the expanded indictment. [114] He faced death by lethal injection if convicted on all of the charges. Meyer, Tom (May 10, 2013). After her release, Knight was brought to the hospital; having been severely beaten by Castro, she was left with a loss of vision and nerve damage. Her mother told the press that she hoped to reunite with her daughter and to introduce Knight to a younger sister who had been born during the time she was captive. However, Knight chose to avoid her family after leaving the hospital. She lost a lot. The constant beatings, starvation, the multiple forced miscarriages that now prevent her from bearing children, the rapes at all hours of the day, her sense of self, 11 years of her life and the loss of her son. She endured so much and, as readers, we only catch a glimpse. No one can ever begin to understand what she went through. No one.
