About this deal

Unlike most other models on this list, the Carbon8 does not come with a bottle. Instead, the carbonator has a water tank that carbonates water as it dispenses into the container of your choice. It's a single-serve, at-the-ready machine that's ideal for single people or families who all want a different flavor of drink. No need to carbonate and flavor an entire bottle that will go to waste if you only want a few sips. As far as carbonating tanks go, this model uses the same standard ones that are used by other brands. Julie Hershman home-tested the SodaStream Fizzi One Touch and the Aarke Carbonator II. A writer and photographer who covers music, theater, travel, and food, she's traveled the whole world but lives in Astoria, Queens. Our favourite feature of Aarke's carbonator was definitely the posh lever that allows you to control the pressure of the CO2 for a super smooth experience, and there are no splashes when you remove it. We liked this machine's small countertop footprint, which makes it a great option for small spaces, and that it doesn't require electricity (or batteries for that matter). The included bottle has a clearly marked fill line, plus low and high bubble levels that let you easily eyeball if you need more or less carbonation. The manual lists how many seconds you'll need to carbonate different drinks.

We love the Drinkmate Sparkling Beverage Maker, which allows you to add fizz to any drink you choose. Both models are heavy-duty, commercial-grade products designed for everyday use, extremely reliable and easy to service. They are easily one of the best carbonated water makers you can get on the market. Number of BPA-free bottles included: Most will offer a one-litre bottle in the box with a maximum fill capacity of 850ml. But some brands like Aarke and Mysoda offer two, making life easier if you’re pre-chilling or want some on the go or for families. The DrinkMate OmniFizz produced drinks with gentle, rolling bubbles. It was a bit like drinking white noise. You depress the button on top multiple times in short bursts to carbonate water (there’s a max amount of carbonation that is still relatively mild) before releasing the built-up pressure via the attached infuser.

What is SodaStream gas?

No, there isn't evidence that carbonated water has a negative impact on your dental or overall health. But that's not the best bit. Drinkmate prides itself on being able to add fizz to any drink you want, whether that's orange squash, wine or cider. Literally, anything you can get your hands on that doesn't have pulp. Key specs – Water bottles included: 1 (1 litre); Colours available: 4; Height: 43 cm; Warranty: 2 years

In general, this one's definitely for those of you who waste a lot of plastic buying sparkling water as it's much more sustainable, plus it looks amazing in your kitchen as a flashy tool to treat yourself, and your guests.

The best SodaStreams and water carbonators to buy in 2023

SodaStream burst on to the scene in 1903, when creator George Gilbey first invented his ‘aerating liquid machine.’ More than 100 years later, these fizz-makers are more popular than ever as a great eco gadget. Using a SodaStream machine can help one household eliminate 60 single-use plastic bottles a month – that’s more than 700 a year! Figures like these will make a huge difference to the planet, so there’s never been a better time to invest in one of their sparkling water makers. The standard Spirit has everything you need to turn tap water into a bubbly beverage, while the sturdy Crystal comes in a stylish stainless steel finish with sophisticated glass carafes. Whichever SodaStream machine you choose, you’ll be doing your bit to drink more sustainably. And the good news is, you can swap your used cylinders for recycled refills at any of our stores nationwide. Stylish bubbles from Aarke Please note: Recycled SodaStream Cylinders are only available when you return a used SodaStream cylinder. Used cylinders can be returned to any of our stores. This is the only carbonator that can add fizz to any drink – juices, iced teas, wine – you name it, this machine can make it can sparkle. So which is best? In our guide, we've found the best sparkling water makers to suit your needs (and budget), as well as answered all your questions about these popular devices. Best sparkling water makers at a glance: Aarke soda makers are designed to be easy to use. Just insert a CO2 cylinder into the tower, add tap water up to the fill line of your carbonation bottle and screw it into the machine. Push the stainless steel lever down until you hear a buzz, then release the lever, unscrew the bottle and seal it. Canisters of CO2 are available separately and Aarke carbonators are compatible with the 60-litre SodaStream gas cylinders we sell online, and the recycled canisters we sell in store. Built to last

Some molecules will even produce a new compound - carbonic acid, which, if you took a glass of freshly poured beer, would somewhat resemble the process of breathing in humans with CO2 leaving into the atmosphere much as we breathe it out with every breath. A commercial water carbonator will work perfectly paired with your soda machine providing all the necessary fizz for your carbonated drinks by combining plain water and CO2 to create carbonated water. How Is Water Carbonated? Swedish brand Aarke is behind a range of stunning stainless steel soda maker machines, which make a statement in the kitchen in a selection of metal and chrome finishes and give you sparkling water at the push of a lever. Fancy making your own Pepsi? You can also buy syrups that replicate your favourite pop – think cola and lemonade. These can be added to any fizzy water, so you can enjoy them with whichever soda maker you choose. What to look for in a soda maker The more expensive Crystal is another favourite for those looking to ditch plastic completely - it uses a glass bottle. With a press of the top button, the Aarke Carbonator Pro produced slightly smaller bubbles than the Aarke Carbonator 3 and the water had a slight minerality (likely the glass bottle allowing us to taste the mineral content of the tap water). The machine also had a tendency to drip slightly on the base tray when removing a bottle. Bottle lifespan: The type of bottle can also affect its lifespan. Plastic bottles can typically no longer be used for carbonation after four years - your bottle should come with an expiration date. However, glass bottles can be used indefinitely. It had been thought that the sugar content in soft drinks causes obesity, but this doesn't account for the link between weight gain and diet drinks that don't contain sugar. The researchers suggest carbonation could be the common link between the two." Size: First things first, you need to make sure your sparkling water maker fits on your kitchen counter. Whilst most are reasonably slim, they can be quite tall. If you have a small kitchen or compact counter space, you may need your new gadget to fit beneath an overhead kitchen cupboard. If so, we'd always recommend measuring up. For reference, the Drinkmate OmniFizz is the smallest of the sparkling water makers.
