It gives you all of those fun summer vacation vibes… yet with all of the underlying feeling in your stomach that something is seriously not right. We Were Liars was the beginning of becoming the obsessive bookworm that i am. so i owe a lot to this book. the impact it had on me and the memories it holds are unparalleled.

Half way into the book I could not stop thinking that this is just like "the uninvited" movie, so the end was obvious to me, and I love the idea. Aunt Carrie’s husband left her when she was pregnant with Johnny’s brother, Will. I don’t know what happened. The family never speaks of it. By summer eight, Will was a baby and Carrie had taken up with Ed already. Caroline’s painful face surgery that reshaped her bone structure heals with the help of drugs but Caroline’s addiction to those pills gets out of control, resulting with stealing her parents’ pills to sleep tight at the night.I won’t get into the plot because I don’t want to spoil this for potential readers, but I will say that its an excellent addition to the series and I’m really glad the author wrote it. I loo forward to doing a re-read of WWL in the near future. I swim to shore. I really have a problem with the writing, but this is just a matter of taste. But then again, I've never been a fan of this type of prose. Needless to say, I don't like e.e. cummings. The writing is so often choppy, haphazardly punctuated. The first-person narrator also has a tendency to use very, very dramatic imagery to describe situations. Some situations are false. Then he pulled out a handgun and shot me in the chest. I was standing on the lawn and I fell. The bullet hole opened wide and my heart rolled out of my rib cage and down into a flower bed. Blood gushed rhythmically from my open wound,

Did the Aunts even notice / think it was weird how much time Cady spent alone at Cuddledown by herself? What about the part with the donut shop? Did they want her to realize they were lying about that? I hate when twists like these make me want to re-read to catch all the hints leading up to the twist.I also loved the drama in this book. A lot of people talk about court intrigue in fantasy books/books with monarchy systems, but if you really want the dirt then books like this work just fine. There was all this internal fighting, family members blowing up (NOT LITERALLY), and tangled relationships.

Normalmente intento hacer críticas constructivas, pero sigo sin entender muy bien la intención de esta novela. ¿Dónde está el gran misterio que rodea a Cady, la protagonista? Ni siquiera creo que sea un thriller, como se cataloga. Es una historia sin más con un giro en la trama que se ve venir desde literalmente el primer capítulo. En serio, ¿qué mierdas? ¿De verdad me he tragado 200 páginas para descubrir algo que era más que obvio? Y encima ni siquiera es algo grave, es como... The quality of the writing, the expressiveness and the atmosphere of the whole thing just drew me in. Every single time. One thing I'm especially enjoying about this book is how accurate the teen dialogue sounded. Conversations are littered with 'like', and awkward pauses, and slightly immature humour, and it all felt so real. I actually love pretentious teens in some other YA books, such as those penned by John Green, but it is also refreshing to find authenticity here. more than anything, i think this is a story about the complexities of sisterhood. i don’t have sisters so i can’t fully understand the bond between sisters but the relationship between the Sinclair sisters stole the show for me and physically pained me to read. the amount of times my heart was beating out of my chest or i began to cry was countless. and that’s why this is getting five stars, just purely due to the visceral reaction it evoked within me... just like when i was 14 years old. Of course there are plenty of hints, but will you be able to figure them out or will you be in the dark until the end?

This audiobook was good. I should have listened to this book before We Were Liars. It would've spoiled some but not much. I want to remember about the aunties and I'm having a hard time remembering. I need to go flip through We Were Liars again to see which aunties is Cadence's mother and who's the aunties for the other girl's mom. It's been 4 books between the first and this prequel, so it's hard for me to remember. I know Aunt Carrie is Johnny's mom. Good thing We Were Liars has the family tree at the beginning of the book! Annnd...that's all there was that wasn't directly connected with the twist. Just her whining on and on about how much she loves the boy OR about how her rich family. Fab.We have been pretending everything’s okay all year, and we will keep pretending everything’s okay. We know how. It’s the family way.”
