About this deal

Dear Zoo” was written as a lift-the-flap board book in 1982, by the Scottish author, Rod Campbell. It is his most famous work, and thirty-five years later, it is still tremendously popular among the under fives in Great Britain, and has been translated into more than a dozen different languages. This story is a fun introduction to animals and their characteristics. It is written in the first person, with repetitive sentences. The nature of repetitiveness enables young readers to predict and engage with the story. Children will love lifting the flaps to discover their favourite farm animals and their babies in Noisy Farm. Meet Sam the farm dog, visit the animals and don't forget to join in by calling out their noises! Rod Campbell, the creator of preschool favourites including Oh Dear! and Noisy Farm, has been a trusted name in early learning for over forty years, and the classic, Dear Zoo has been a firm favourite with toddlers and parents alike since its first publication in 1982.

As he hasn't ruled out one day becoming a zookeeper, Ben found the premise of this book intriguing; a kid writes a letter to the zoo and gets free stuff. Sounds great, right? After all, he's currently unemployed and can't very well buy his own things, let alone afford a pet. Also there's flaps and those always blow his mind. I can't believe this was a new book when I first read to my children 25 years ago-they were babies! How fast time goes. Try to find out information about each animal. Where does it live? What does it eat? What does a zookeeper need to do to look after it. Could you write a sequel to the book, which involves someone asking for something but each time they receive a gift, there is something ‘wrong’ with it?If anyone can talk simply and clearly to little ones about endangered animals and conservation, it’s Rod Campbell, the famed author of Dear Zoo. This lovely flap book is a great one to read together.

Join Sam the farm dog for a day on the farm to meet lots of animals and their babies in this interactive lift-the-flap story from Rod Campbell, creator of bestselling preschool classic, Dear Zoo. The book was first published in 1982. Can you find other books which were published at a similar time? What was life like in 1982? How have things changed? As children lift the flaps to discover the seven creatures from the zoo that would make problematic pets, they will delight in pressing the buttons to create the correct accompanying animal noise, whether it is a hiss, roar or a ribbit. This review is for Dear Zoo: Noisy Book, which I think is the best of all the many versions and formats. It begins:The hungry mouse likes eating cheese, the rabbit likes carrots and the monkey likes bananas, but what about the hungry tiger? Find out in this fun and inventive touch-and-feel book from Rod Campbell, the author of Dear Zoo. With bright, bold artwork, a catchy refrain and eight animal noises, the Dear Zoo Noisy Book is sure to keep toddlers entertained for hours - perfect for joining in! I wrote to the zoo to send me a pet..." (That's a direct quote from the book) and then I'd pull out a different puppet from the box and bring it to life for a few seconds. It was fun to have the parents and talking kids chant the line over and over with me. And it was even more fun to see the children's excitement when a "live" animal came out of the box. Priceless. A nice interaction tale with various flaps as parents are able to teach children the different animals that can be found at the zoo.
