It measured in at around 72 decibels in our testing. A little louder than some other newer iO handles like the 4,5 and 6. Yet a bit quieter than most other Oral-B brushes nonetheless.

I’ve yet to find anyone who uses them all or any real justification for having so many. The reality is the cleaning results between each are very similar.Overall, brush head reminders are a feature that are nice-to-have, but not critical. If you’re organized enough you can simply use a recurring calendar reminder. The fact that they are included on each iO model means you don’t need to factor this feature too heavily into your choice of iO brush models. Battery life should be similar, but premium models are inconsistent
Models like the 8 and 9 Series do have extra cleaning modes compared to the 3, 4 and 5. But, these modes don’t change the actual cleaning results.We do like how the modes are displayed on the screen. This is an upgrade from previous Oral-B brushes which had confusing icons for the different modes. The icons are still here, but the screen also names each mode so it is very easy to tell which one you are in. Remember when you were a kid, and you really, really wanted that toy for Christmas, and the anticipation was so much that when you finally got it, it left you feeling rather disappointed? Welcome to the Oral-B iO 7. If you like to switch between different brush heads, the refill holder offers a place to store others when not in use. It’s also ideal for placing the head on to dry whilst detached from the handle. Oral-B have some of the more cost effective brush heads, compared to the likes of Sonicare for example.
After you go through the modes, you come to a “Settings” option. You select the option by pushing the power button. Here you can enable or disable Bluetooth, change the color of the LED light ring, change the language (with 12 available languages!), or perform a Factory Reset. Models that connect via Bluetooth to an app will report the active mode within the on-screen timer.
I originally wanted the iO series 7 because Consumer Reports here in the US gave it a top rating but it is expensive for an electric toothbrush. But then I saw the Genius X also got an excellent review on CR and saw that the Costco version of the Genius was going on sale this month so I started to consider that one. I’ll take a look at the Smart Clean 360 as well. The features that are most important to me are the pressure sensor and timer. I also want to factor in the price of the replacement heads because that will add up over time. As the new flagship series from Oral-B, the iO comes with lots of additional features via the built-in screen and the app. The Screen Sure, when you go from a manual brush to power - it upgrades your clean. But when you go from electric brushing to iO it goes beyond the ordinary to become a truly extraordinary experience that you will see, hear and feel differently.
