About this deal

The OTTY deluxe pillow uses the same technologies from their highly sought after mattresses. From the cover, foam layers and special properties of the design, but we’ll get to all that shortly. Pure feather pillows – as luxurious as the idea of pure feathers may sound, we’d avoid this type as those pesky feather quills seem to have a way of escaping and stabbing you in the face. It’s also worth noting they don’t offer the support and height needed for side sleepers. Plus, they can be noisy and don’t suit allergy sufferers. Some new mattresses (particularly memory foam) can come with an off-gassing smell that is a little unpleasant. To assess just how much of a smell the Otty Original Hybrid brought with it, I left the windows closed for a couple of days while it reached its full height. While there was a definite odour in the room, it wasn’t particularly offensive and didn’t hang around for too many days after the room was well ventilated. Otherwise, as a great all-round option that will suit most sleepers, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Deluxe Pure. It is, hands down, one of the most comfortable memory foam pillows we’ve tested. To make things even better the OTTY pillow cover is also machine washable at up to 40° Celsius. Making any mishaps an easy clean. That way a pillowcase is not mandatory but we and OTTY do recommend you use one, it's just more practical.

Onto the 2nd mattress, no chemical smell this time thank goodness as that smell is vile, just over a year and this one split in the same way, this one was replaced this time. The OTTY Deluxe Pure comes with charcoal and bamboo-infused memory foam core. This pillow eliminates odours, improves breathability and regulates temperature to a degree. The only significant caveat is that to keep the pillow feeling its best, you’ll need to plump it up daily – something that’s not necessary with the foam pillows in this list. While these materials are resistant to dust mites, they can still can live within these pillows. If you're looking for an anti-allergy pillow, be sure to buy one that's specifically had its filling treated, or make sure to clean your pillow often. What to look for in an anti-allergy pillow It’s worth adding that you should always take any claims of “cooling” properties with a bit of a pinch of salt. While some bedding undoubtedly offers better heat regulation, no pillow we’ve ever tested will actively cool you down. Bamboo is good to consider if you're looking for a naturally sourced hypoallergenic material that prevents dust mites. Bamboo pillows are a lot more breathable than other pillows, which can help prevent dust mites from settling inside. Panda’s memory foam pillow undercuts many of its rivals on price, including the pillows of online bed-in-a-box companies such as Eve, Otty and Emma. Price aside, though, it’s a very comfortable and supportive pillow, landing somewhere in the middle on the firmness scale.

During pollen season, keep windows closed or use an air purifier: mites live in dust particles and pollen, so on days where there are higher levels of pollen in the air it may be worth closing windows until the pollen has passed. An air purifier can also help with this: read our advice on how to buy an air purifier. While the mattress did well at keeping the wine glass standing at 10 and 25 inches away, it toppled over at 4 inches. Bearing in mind that the 8kg is quite a heavy weight, the lesson learnt here is that while this mattress has good motion isolation technology, it’s best not to get too close if you want to go undisturbed by your partner at night.

Don't Miss Out!

Box pillows have walled sides and are increasingly popular. They can come with a variety of fillings including memory foam and synthetic fibres.

If you have been diagnosed with a dust mite allergy, the NHS recommends investing in barrier bedding covers, including anti-allergy pillows. For those who have a known allergy to materials such as latex or down, a hypoallergenic pillow is suggested. To test the edge support further, I used an 8kg weight to measure the sinkage on the sides of bed, which came at around 1.5inches. This seems average for a hybrid bed like this and in keeping with the sinkage measurements in the middle of the bed as previously mentioned. Getting in and out of bed easily should be a given, but with a mattress that has bad edge support you’re more likely to tumble out of bed in the morning and struggle to clamber on. Good edge support is also needed to keep you in position when you sleep and stop you slipping out of bed at night. Even if you did put time and effort into getting the right pillow the last time around, chances are it needs replacing. Even the best pillows don’t tend to last more than a few years, eventually failing to provide the level of support they used to – and that’s before you even think about the hygiene factor. You probably won’t want to hear this, but within two years of use, a third of a pillow’s weight is made up of dead skin, dirt, oil, dust mites and their droppings.Lovely knit pattern, side mesh for additional airflow, brilliant durability and longevity, scratch, tear and shrink-resistance of the fabric – it's just lovely. The soft white polyester outer cover is well made and has a grey viscose band around the middle which I believe offers extra breathability, however it does tend to make my hair static! Not the best look in the morning. It is smart though and rather like the fabric on an office chair. The cover can be unzipped and machine washed at 40 degrees which is great if you don’t want to use an extra pillow case and also for allergy sufferers. As is the blue memory foam filling which has been infused with a cool gel to provide a cooler sleeping surface for your head, reducing tossing and turning in the night. Memory foam is typically made out of polyurethane, which isn't a suitable environment for dust mites to live in and is hypoallergenic. They're often the most supportive and last a longer time than other pillows. They can be too warm though, and some people dislike how dense they can be. The pillow is constructed in such a way to include a layer that not only keep your head supported and comfy but also allow for airflow and breathability. OTTY has incorporated a cool blue gel-infused memory foam, this layer has a slow response from the memory foam properties giving you that cloud-like feeling. Although, memory foam is known to retain heat, OTTY have combated this by introducing airflow technology. This is a special way the memory foam is made to include larger size air bubbles, regulating temperature and ensuring that you are cool, thus you get the comfiness of memory foam without the heat retention properties. If your mornings are plagued by runny noses, coughing, or sneezing, it could be that your pillow is triggering an allergic reaction. Synthetic pillows are usually made from polyester. As they’re hypoallergenic, they’re great for allergy sufferers and also affordable, lightweight and easy to care for. They’re good if you sleep in a variety of positions throughout the night too. But they aren’t as malleable or breathable as other pillows and they have the shortest lifespan of all pillows – with the filling often prone to clumping. Hypoallergenic means that the pillow's material and filling aren't made of a known potential allergen, such as down or latex. If you are allergic to down, you may want to consider a hypoallergenic pillow - however allergens such as dust mites can still develop. The mattress has an ‘Airflow system’ which sees small perforations throughout that allow air to circulate freely throughout the mattress, removing excess heat. Testing this mattress in winter in a room that was 18 degrees, I didn’t notice feeling either too warm or too cool.

The mattress is also reasonably priced and great value for money compared to other hybrid designs that have similarly luxurious finishes. The mattress comes well equipped with everything you need to get it out of the box and set up on your bed easily, doesn’t leave much of an odour after opening and well ventilating the room, and it has just enough cushioning on its firm support design to leave you feeling comfortable during the night. When buying a pillow, you can tell the difference between hypoallergenic and anti-allergy pillows by looking to see if the pillow has been treated with a biocide to ward off bacteria and dust mites. The cover of the OTTY pillow is made of a fully breathable material that allows the pillow to breathe. It feels nice and soft and it features a pattern that makes it look premium. The design follows the one that is found in the OTTY mattress, so expect the grey sides and the logo on top. You can remove the cover and pop it inside your washing machine every time you want to clean it. Make sure, you use a gentle cycle at 40 degrees. Overall, this is a high-quality cover that does the job so no complaints at all. Support
