This isn’t a fast paced book, but it moves at a steady pace with several twists thrown in along the way. Most of which I didn’t see coming, especially the last chapter. Journalist Margot Davies is tired of reporting meaningless stories. One night, she stumbles upon a clue in the most infamous crime in her hometown’s history: the unsolved murder of six-year-old January. Also, when Billy kills Krissy, he says, “You shouldn’t have lied to me.” Uh… like 15 years too late, right? I mean, if he wanted to call her out for lying, wouldn’t he have done that a long time before? Why did he kill her anyway? I guess we’re supposed to assume it’s because he found the note in her purse. But then, wouldn’t he have said, “So, you know what happened, huh? I can’t have you telling anyone…” or something like that? I know this was to conceal who the killer was, but it was really ill-fitting. The whole suicide story was actually pretty unconvincing. The police never looked into it further? They never tested for gunshot residue? They didn’t find it suspicious that half of Krissy’s letter was torn off or that she lying by the door with her purse out, as if she was getting ready to leave? The had noticed a tiny bit of blood on Jase’s pajamas all those years before; could they not find any blood on Billy’s clothes? I find it hard to believe that they wouldn’t have looked into this very deeply, given the family’s history. But maybe we’re supposed to just accept that the police were so convinced of Jace or Krissy’s guilt that they accepted suicide without investigating at all. Again, that seems ridiculous. Eight year-old April was out playing with a friend and decided to home and get her umbrella. Then she vanished.
Is poor Margot dead? We have to assume that Margot finds a way to get away. Reasons Why Margot is NOT a Crime Junkie Personally, I felt all the twists and turns were organic and made sense within this story. They feel earned and representative of how complicated real crime investigations are. The truth is rarely as simple as we would like it to be and All Good People Here reflects this beautifully. Flowers perfectly captures small town USA - the social pressure to do the right thing, the in-line thinking. There’s a lot said here about the rush to judgement.
When you think about it, there really weren’t that many suspects in January’s murder. Mostly just Krissy, Billy and Luke. My main suspect was Luke. The dementia seemed like a plot device to me. I liked Margot and Krissy and thought all of the characters were believable. While flawed, I could empathize which most of them. The mystery is sound, causing me to change my mind many times as to who the culprit might be. The whole story made me feel sad about all the things that could have been and all the small things that could have gone differently to avoid how it all turned out- I like a book that can leave me with that much emotion at the end. WHAT did Krissy mean in her letter to Jace when she said “I learned something about your father. He isn’t who you think he is.” Does “your father” mean Billy, the only father Jace ever knew? Or does it mean Dave/Luke, Jace’s biological father? DID Krissy figure out that Billy killed January? Like I said before, there really aren't any surprises, and if there are, there's not enough suspenseful tension built up to make the reader care about the identity of the villain(s).stars — I have heard a lot of talk about “All Good People Here” due to it being the first novel written by Ashley Flowers, the host of the popular podcast, “Crime Junkie.” My thoughts after reading this book are — Flowers does a great job as the host of the popular podcast, “Crime Junkies.” Book Genre: Adult, Contemporary, Crime, Drama, Fiction, Mystery, Mystery Thriller, Suspense, Thriller That very day, Krissy ends up dead, presumed by suicide. January Jacobs, went missing from her home one night in 1994. Her body was discovered in a ditch less than two miles from the Jacobs home. All Good People Here has plot elements similar to a completely spectulative and unproven theory about the JBR case, that one or both of JBR’s parents staged the scene to cover up the fact that someone in the family was involved in what happened to JonBenét. How is the January Jacobs Case Similar to Other True Crime Cases, like the JonBenét Ramsey case? Character List for All Good People Here: Especially with an epilogue in past tense, and well, I can’t tell you how the chapter prior to the epilogue ended because that would be giving it away. Speaking of the end, it’s the only part of the book I didn’t love, as there were loose ends I didn’t feel were tied up (and I love when everything is tied up neatly!). This wasn’t enough to keep me from loving the book, though.

This has clearly been inspired by and based on a real-life crime including a child (!), so we are not going to even mention that and basically create a theory about that and profit off of it and not even disclose it. Is this history repeating itself again? And is the "author" getting away with it again? Doesn't sit right with me. This is so similar to JonBenet Ramsey's case. Too many similarities and possibly the writer pushing her agenda of what she thinks happened with that one. Initially when I started this review I was going to give it 2 stars but in good faith I cannot - clearly there were too many things I disliked - I am going to downgrade to a 1.5 rounded down to 1. Sorry, I really wanted to like this one, it was my first NetGalley read for a while and I was pretty pumped - completely let down though. 😪 Could January’s case have been inspired by the JonBenét Ramsey case? Did you think the explanation for January’s death make sense?
Another girl has disappeared and only reporter Margot Davies sees a connection. 20 years prior, her childhood friend January was taken and murdered. Now - another girl taken, a new haunting message on a wall, clandestine warnings - all pulling Margot deeper into the story. But Margot has problems - she’s losing everything, including her uncle with early dementia and she keeps seeing a strange red-haired woman everywhere, all while Margot is side-eyeing everyone she knows from this small town, including those closest to her. Always tell someone where you’re going, especially if you’re going to meet up with ANYONE who could be a suspect in a murder case. Like the father of one victim and the husband of another. Margot! On the night of January’s murder, Dave told Billy that he was the twins’ father, sending Billy into the rage that would lead to January’s death.But after what happened to January, WHY did Dave/Luke never say anything about this to Krissy or the police or anyone? WHY? Due to his dementia, we will never know. Maybe he told his brother Adam (Margot’s father) leading to his alcoholism. (Just a joke. Sort of.) I am not super familiar with the JonBenét Ramsey case, but there seem to be some superficial similarities: i can’t wait to see what ashley did with this book!! she’s such a great podcaster. literally PRAYING i get this arc 😭😭 i am not above begging
