About this deal

Queen Elizabeth is an exception perhaps to the rule; some would say she was born into privilege, part of the elite classes. However, the story rather than side-stepping the facts, focuses on the things that made Elizabeth such a special and much loved monarch. Ah, at last, a visit to the Tudor times of England and a Queen who had to struggle to get and keep the throne, who reigned while Shakespeare was alive, but who needed a Scot to bail England out with the job of ruling after her virginal time was past and the Tudors were no more. Oh, wait, now, what's this? This has got the war in, and a relative abdicating, and marrying Philip the Greek.

Little People, BIG DREAMS is a best-selling biography series for kids that explores the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream. Being a queen wasn’t something Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, or Lilibet as her family called her, had dreamed about nor been prepared for. After all, she was born a princess, the granddaughter of King George. There were many others in line for the throne. Unlike her grandchildren today who are being raised in the shadow of what’s ahead, the first decade of Elizabeth’s life was carefree, with little understanding nor expectation of a royal destiny. Sadly, she lost her father shortly after and was stunned to discover she was it – the next head of state. Instead of a quiet life in the country, she unexpectedly became the longest-reigning British monarch and served with remarkable poise and dignity.Part of the Little People, Big Dreams series, cleverly written by Maria Isabel Sánchez Vegara and always memorably illustrated throughout. The words capture the essence of each childhood and the influences on their lives. This empowering series offers inspiring messages to children of all ages, in a range of formats. The board books are told in simple sentences, perfect for reading aloud to babies and toddlers. The hardcover versions present expanded stories for beginning readers. Boxed gift sets allow you to collect a selection of the books by theme. Matching games and other fun learning tools provide even more ways to make the lives of these role models accessible to children . The author’s focus on two major events in young Elizabeth’s life, highlight moments which changed her life forever. This is a good opportunity to spend time with children discussing what happens when events, out of our control, occur and cause our journey to take a different direction. I read this with my niece and nephew, and we talked about how our attitude can make all the difference in the world. The first lesson Elizabeth learned was that “a good queen serves her people, not the other way around.’ This shaped her destiny and contributed to her incredible legacy as the longest serving British monarch. At just 26 years old, when her beloved father dies, Elizabeth becomes Queen of the UK on June 2, 1953. I learned previously she had volunteered for the British Army as a Driver and Mechanic. At 21, she married Prince Phillip and saved Ration Coupons for the fabric for her Wedding Dress, loved animals and had 30 Corgi Dogs in all. Each dog was made a meal from the Palace Kitchen!

In recent days the U.K. and across the world, many have given thanks for her life of dedicated service. Little People, BIG DREAMS first came to life because author Maria Isabel had an idea—an idea that blossomed into a dream that came to life in a book series! The story is really well done and it is a lovely little tribute, it doesn't cover the Queens passing in the book as it was written ahead of that happening. The illustrations are lovely and whilst they are not as like like as some in the series have been they are great to tell her story. We learn all the essential facts about the Queen - from whose daughter and granddaughter she was, to her famous speech to children during World War II, her wedding, coronation and royal duties. In the end, there is a 'longer' text with a brief biography of the Queen. The quality of this summary for children is perfect. In my opinion, it's supported by the fact that many newspaper articles about the royal family don't mention more details. Of course there was much that was enjoyable, and I remember plenty of pictures of her smiling and laughing with genuine pleasure. Queen Elizabeth ll loved corgis dogs and horses and dreamed of living on a farm. Little did she expect that should be a reigning queen living in a grand palace all the rest of her life. In 1952, she was crowned Queen of the United Kingdom. Sadly she passed away on September 8, 2022 and the entire world mourned her death. Two of her corgis dogs and one of her horses attended her state funeral.
