It’s hard to imagine it all working and being such a huge success, however, without the key ingredient: Arnold Schwarzenegger. The score was composed by Jerry Goldsmith. The producers intended to have him record the score in Munich because the pay for musicians there was lower, but the players were unfamiliar with Goldsmith's style and the resulting score was disappointing. Instead, Goldsmith was given the funding necessary to record the score in London with the National Philharmonic Orchestra, who were more fitting to Goldsmith's musical intentions with brass and string instruments combined with electronics sounds. The recording was put on hiatus for three months so Verhoeven could have time to edit the special effects, during which Goldsmith recorded the score for Gremlins 2: The New Batch (1990), before returning to finish his work on Total Recall. Goldsmith also performed the commercial jingles and elevator music heard in the film, and composer Bruno Louchouarn provided additional pieces heard on Mars.[83] Bell laughed, recalling the time Schwarzenegger came over to him in the Total Recall gym and gave him some advice on how to best do a curl, saying, “I’m sitting there and I’m getting trained by Arnold during the lunch break! And then you go into the trailer and have a Sachertorte [cake] that he had flown in from Vienna.” Fully reimagined in stunning 4K for its 30th anniversary — and remastered in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos — Paul Verhoeven’s out-of-this-world sci-fi thrill ride can now be experienced like never before! In this splintered-reality mind-bender, it’s the year 2084, and construction worker Quaid (Schwarzenegger) is haunted by dreams of Mars, a place he’s never been. Against his wife’s (Sharon Stone) wishes, Quaid goes to Rekall, a memory-implant company that promises a thrilling virtual trip to the red planet. But what Quaid “remembers” is that he’s a secret agent whose cover has been blown…and that he must return to Mars at any cost. transfers are sourced from 4K masters but here's where the giant asterisk comes in: they're then downscaled to standard Blu-ray 1080p resolution.Hrs. remains the prototype for almost all subsequent unlikely buddy-buddy action comedies that came after it, and remains a high point in the careers of almost everybody involved. Nolte had been in the industry for a decade, but this film - more action driven than anything he'd done previously - changed the course of his career. Hill had been working on the project for a decade, with Eastwood and Richard Pryor in mind, but by the 80s, Pryor was too big, so they introduced the world to then- Saturday Night Live stand-up Eddie Murphy, who would gamely and studiously commit to the script, remaining on-point and in-character and clearly desperately hungry to succeed with his breakout performance. StudioaCanal and Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release on 4K Blu-ray Paul Verhoeven's futuristci thriller Total Recall (1990), starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rachel Ticotin, Sharon Stone, Ronny Cox, and Michael Ironside.
