About this deal

Please note, this fork has a straight 1 1/8" steerer tube and 9mm QR dropouts nottapered and bolt through as pictured. Pike and Yari - The Pike and Yari fork series offer long travel – 140 to 160 mm – and are designed for a wide range of trail riding. Pike forks are somewhat lighter and more expensive than Yari forks, but both offer excellent adjustability so you can tailor them to any full suspension mountain bike. Boost is the standard wheel and drivetrain specification that opens the opportunity for improved frame geometry with shorter chain stays, wider and stiffer suspension pivots, wider range of chainring options, as well as more clearance for bigger Tyres and wider, stiffer wheels. Features stanchions (steel stanchions on Judy [B1] and Silver TK [A2] and Silver TK [A3], aluminium stanchions on Gold RL [A2] and Gold RL [A3]).

The Pike Select gets a more basic Charger RC damper, with easy-to-adjust low-speed compression and rebound. Apart from the Pressure Relief Valves, which can be retrofitted, the Pike Select shares the same DebonAir+ air spring, seals and damper fluid as the rest of the Pike line-up. Weight is another factor for bikers, especially if you are going through mountain trails. You will not want a heavy bike while going uphill. Adjustments are an absolute necessity if you want more control over your bike. It allows you to adjust your bike for different situations. This is the mid-range damper and it comes in a few different formats. All are emulsion dampers, where the damping oil isn't separated from the air in the fork, which can lead to less precisely controlled damping when the two materials mix -become an emulsion - under more extreme use. Not having the damping oil under any positive pressure - as it is in a sealed damper - can also lead to loss of damping control due to cavitation, though this is rare. Solo Air spring The air presure required in your fork will vary depending on the model of fork, and the style of your bike. For DebonAir, SoloAir, and Dual Postion Air, you will determine require pressure based on the percent sag, the amount of full travel that the suspension compresses when the ride is on the bicycle in a normal riding position. Please note: These forks have a straight 1 1/8" steerer tube and 9mm QR dropouts. Images are for illustration only. The Judy moniker is another blast from the past. It is designed as a low to mid-range fork that offers plenty of clearance for Plus tyres up to 2.8in wide, using Boost hub spacing to achieve this. It comes in either 100mm or 120mm of travel and 27.5- or 29-inch wheel sizes. stanchions (steel stanchions on TK 15X100 [A2] and TK [B1] and Silver TK [C1] and Silver TK [D1] and Silver RL [D1] and RL 15X100 [A2] and RL [B1], aluminium stanchions on Gold RL [A5] and Gold RL [C1]).

The wins with the XC32 at this price are the 32mm legs and the 15mm axle which make steering predictably accurate and keep it stiff under braking. Suntour’s ‘ingenious’ expanding-ended Q-LOC axle can be a pain to get through some hubs but it works OK if you keep it clean. After installing the Judy and building up the bike, setup was about as straightforward as it gets. I pumped up the air spring to about 30% sag, dialed the compression to where it was fully open and then adjusted the rebound to the medium setting between fastest and slowest (the extremes were very fast and very sluggish, respectively, so I’m guessing I’m going to be keeping it middle of the road going forward). Compared to some of the higher end forks it doesn't seem to be quite as smooth or sensitive, but for a third of the price that’s to be expected.Commonly made up of a spring and a damper which work together to create a smooth rider experience, a metal coil spring can be found on lower-end versions or the occasional gravity-focused fork. The 30 series is a budget-friendly suspension fork with between 80 and 120 mm of travel. These forks use steel stanchions and coil springs, which makes them a bit heavy.

The ZEB is available in 650b and 29-inch wheel sizes with 160-, 170-, 180-, and 190mm travel options. You also get the choice of 38mm and 44mm offsets. So, if you are looking for an adjustable fork for your bike, go for the Judy Gold. However, if you are a beginner and on a budget, the Judy silver will be good. The ZEB Select+ also comes with a DebonAir+ air spring and Charger 3 damper. In fact, it gets all of the goodness found on the Ultimate but without the Buttercups and machined crown. We don't have a price on this model as it looks like it's OEM only. The coil spring versions are very smooth over small stuff but definitely go for the more progressive and surprisingly well-balanced and easily tuneable Solo Air spring if you can. Either way, the TurnKey damper manages to keep its head on a reasonably long way into faster, rougher sections before it starts to get unpredictable.A tapered steerer is when the fork's steerer tube starts at 1/18in at the top and gradually turns to 1.5in by the time the steerer meets the fork crown. A tapered steerer allows for a stronger and stiffer design that will result in more positive steering. Rounding up the Pike range is the Pike base which comes with a Rush RC damper, DebonAir+ air spring and everything that we get on the Select model, including the opportunity to upgrade the fork to use Pressure Relief Valves. Like the Select+, this one looks like it's OEM only. Adjustable rebound on Judy [B1] and Silver TK [A2] and Silver TK [A3], adjustable rebound and low speed compression on Gold RL [A2] and Gold RL [A3]. The Judy gold shines here too. It has an exceptionally light weight of 1814 grams. This is less than the 2258-2685 gm weight of the silver model. This air spring allows you to externally adjust the travel by up to 30mm, depending on the fork. Motion Control

Going for Gold also means a full alloy upper to keep weight significantly lower than most affordable forks, making the 35 the benchmark to beat for cost-effective control. How to choose the best budget mountain bike forks How much do suspension forks cost? The Judy chassis has been designed specifically around Boost hub spacing and compatibility with up to a 2.8in wide tyre. The one-piece magnesium lowers are tied together with a 15mm diameter Maxle, which offers a tools-free lever to remove the front wheel. Other features include post-mount brake tabs, and an integrated bolt-on cable guide for the front brake hose. The Judy Silver TK fork is OEM only, and uses cheaper steel upper tubes and a Turnkey damper. It is available in RC2 and RCT3 versions, with the same differences in adjustment as the regular Charger range. Buttercups TurnKey damper on Judy [B1] and Silver TK [A2] and Silver TK [A3], Motion Control damper on Gold RL [A2] and Gold RL [A3]. The ZEB Select+ shares many features with the flagship ZEB, including the DebonAir+ air spring, Charger 3 RC2 damper and Pressure Relief Valves, but it misses out on the vibration-damping ButterCups and machined crown.Probably one of the most underrated forks around, Manitou’s Mattoc has been around for a long time but it’s still worth looking for, especially as online pricing is often much better than official RRPs. Designed specifically for use on dirt jump and slopestyle bikes, the Pike DJ features a custom-tuned Charger damper and Solo Air air spring designed to offer maximum progression for harsh landings and heavy compressions.
