About this deal

Tina has written, adapted, directed and produced over twenty five plays for the company including a large scale national tour of Anne Fine's "The Book of the Banshee", a community tour of "A Little Princess" involving eight actors and eight young people and her recent new plays "The Big ENORMOUS Present" and "Robin's Winter Adventure". The illustrations have a timeless charm, full of character and period detail, wonderfully rich and coloured in a style that's not that familiar these days. I wanted the mask and the cap and the striped jumper and the sack, and I wanted Bill's cosy looking little house, and to sleep all day and go out at night (this may be the genesis of my love of vampire lore too). After all, that poem - perhaps meant to mock sentimental stories like Frances Hodgson's Burnett's Editha's Burglar - also dealt with a burglar and his transformative encounter with an innocent child. It would be interesting to look at the speech in the book, as the characters speak in a non-standard English way, that could be a point of interest for older children ("And these are his own little clothes as well what his Grandma knit him" etc).

It can be used in literacy classes to help the children analyse a character’s behaviour in a story and how this can change through the course of a story. Out of Hours Emergency Phone: 07539 557567**** Next new parent tour will be on 14th November at 9:30am.

You can turn your child into pretty much any World Book Day character they fancy with a little crafting. Allan Ahlberg has published over 100 children's books and with his late wife Janet, created many award-winning children's picture books, including Cops and Robbers, It was a Dark and Stormy Night, Each Peach Pear Plum and the Kate Greenaway Medal winning The Jolly Postman. She just left him on the door step while she was busy burgling and the next thing she knew, he'd gone. This kind of subversion works better on the adult audience, who has seen many stories pan out like this.

Our range of worksheets, display materials and games to help support the teaching of the children's classic, Burglar Bill by Allan Ahlberg. Children…expect the stories they hear to cast light on what they are unsure about: the dark, the unexpected, the repetitious and the ways adults behave. Also, there is an implicit moral tone to the story that balances the otherwise unacceptable idea that burglary is a forgivable, victimless activity.

Raid the dressing-up box for a hi-vis jacket and hard hat and then create a digger out of cardboard. Princess and Pea(Tutti Frutti),The Fever Chart(Pilot Theatre),The Diver(Soho Theatre and Setagaya Public Theatre, Tokyo),Fly in the Ointment, Cover her Feet(Stephen Joseph Theatre),King Arthur,As You Like It,The Crucible(costume design),Wind In The Willows,Coram Boy, 1984, Keys to the Kingdom, Bouncers, Septemberin the Rain, The Trial,The Hunchback of Notre Dame(York Theatre Royal). Every morning he has stolen toast and marmalade - as with The Tiger Who Came To Tea , there is the incongruous mix of traditional cosy English life along with something quite forceful and unmannerly.

The story is not half bad and the art was alright but I feel that the story is also unacceptable for a young child to read this. You won't have to go to Infinity or beyond to make your kid a great Buzz Lightyear costume this World Book Day, you just need this easy-to-follow guide! These diverse threats are persistent and take many forms, including espionage, foreign interference in our political system, sabotage, disinformation, cyber operations, and even assassination and poisonings. Bill and Betty exchange pleasantries and after a short while Bill describes his unusual find the other evening.

Following the success of Pied Piper Theatre’s Burglar Billlast year, this new two hander for very young children follows a similar format. We can also bring this story in PSHE classes to help the children understand how our own actions may affect other peoples’ feelings. This is the sort of coincidence that only works in comedic picture books, but it also works because we can assume that in this cosy little world Bill and Betty are the only two burglars in town, and that fate has pulled them together.Woof, the story of a boy who shape shifts into a dog became a popular television series in the 1980s and 90s.
