About this deal

These lessons are aimed at a year 2 class, however they can be easily adapted for other year groups. Of all the activities that the little boy and Zibbo enjoy together, their favourite is going to parties – even though disaster sometimes strikes when the dragon blows out the candles!

We like the way this book can be used to introduce the concepts of big, medium and small sized, high, higher, and low, and loud, louder and quiet. It has 48 pages, with each double page having one large key word label the type (ice, cloud) or location (pond, river) of the water and one sentence which describes and explains this. The books have been categorised by learning topics that support the Early Learning Goal statements for Understanding the World: The World.Record their narratives, and provide dressing-up clothes and props to reflect their ideas so they can act out and further develop their journeys. In this activity, your Ks1 class will read through the sentences and add in the capital letters and full stops to punctuate the sentences. Explain some similarities and differences between life in this country and life in other countries, drawing on knowledge from stories, non-fiction texts and – when appropriate – maps. Mistaken for a jellyfish, Stanley who has stripes and two handles (and is actually a carrier bag) is the taste of the sea! The blue balloon in the story takes the little boy and his dog Kipper on an exciting journey into space.

With the colourful images and facial expressions that are illustrated throughout the pages, this book expresses in a light yet teachable manner about pollution in the sea. Each double page includes two sentences and a key vocabulary list, making this accessible for all EYFS aged children. For space related activities, see our constellation tubes STEM at home page and our robot coding page. Gather a selection of hot and cold items such as hot water bottles, heated wheat bags, glass bottles filled with hot and cold water, bags of ice cubes and frozen ice packs. It makes a great platform for asking children to share what they already know about these insects, as well as what else they want to find out about them.I read this book over FaceTime to my 5 year old niece and she absolutely loved the story, the characters and was able to relate to the moral of the book too which I think is testament to the clever way it has been written. This 19-page book has 2 to 3 sentences on each page and shows what you would see if you could dig through the earth and come out of the other side. Maisy dresses for the weather so she can have fun outside on sunny, snowy, windy and rainy days, and sees a storm and a rainbow. The important message embedded within Somebody Swallowed Stanley has far greater impact on children because it is presented via a fun and interesting story.

We like the way it shows examples of a variety of things that fly (birds, insects, aeroplanes, balloons, helicopters, bats and clouds).Stanley is a plastic bag and the story follows his journey through ocean where he stumbles upon a number of creatures before eventually being reused. We think this book is useful for teaching children all about earthworms, how important they are for our gardens and how to encourage worms to come to the surface. On World Book Day our school was lucky enough to be visited by Sarah and she shared this book during assembly with the school.
