About this deal

Also in 2011, Millican became a panellist on the ITV programme The Marriage Ref and joined the panel on ITV daytime chat show Loose Women, leaving the series in August. Millican's debut Edinburgh Festival Fringe show Sarah Millican's Not Nice, inspired by her divorce, won the if. But all told, I thought Sarah Millican came across completely as herself - warm, witty, wise and frequently very rude.

Since her first appearance in the limelight, Sarah has worked as a panellist on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Have I Got News for You, Mock the Week, You Have Been Watching, Would I Lie to You? Due to the style it is written in, I found it to be most enjoyable if read a chapter at a time instead of blowing through. She voiced three Viz “Comedy Blaps” in December 2011, alongside Steve Coogan, Simon Greenall and Gavin Webster for Channel 4. It’s not that her everywoman persona is feigned – but you detect a certain steel behind the I’m-just-like-you shtick. But if you are then, grab a large slab of cake, a mug of tea and find out how to be champion or in my case more champion than I already am! The following year she was runner-up in both the Funny Women and So You Think You're Funny awards, as well as the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2006.

Here we find her critiquing the terms used to sell sanitary towels, with reference to the experience of using them – and painting rococo word pictures (Saving Private Ryan is evoked) of the carnage unleashed on the toilet bowl by her particularly heavy flow. A history of Millican's life - from awkward glasses and perms, to a failure of a first marriage, to the work and grind of slogging it as a would-be comic and finding love with a new man and an array of fur babies, it's enlightening, uplifting and very, very funny. A book and an author who is not afraid to tackle sex, mental health, heavy periods, depression, divorce, confidence, cats, clothes and cake with equal aplomb. Living in Switzerland, I had not heard of Sarah Millican until she came up in conversation among some English friends. The show’s first half, and its ending, are less compelling, as Millican plays out to some low-wattage anecdotes about diarrhoea and slicing off her fingertip with a mandolin.

First Sentence: I’m guessing you’ve bought my book because you know the basics about me (glasses, cake, potty mouth) and would like to know more.

Perfectly enjoyable audio book, but not to the point that I'm going to start recommending it to everyone I know--just to people who like bios and comedy. If you’ve ever worn glasses at the age of six, worn an off-the-shoulder gown with no confidence, been contacted by an old school bully, lived in your childhood bedroom in your thirties, been gloriously dumped in a Frankie and Benny’s, cried so much you felt great, been for a romantic walk with a dog, worn leggings two days in a row even though they smelt of wee from a distance, then this is YOUR BOOK. Booking after dinner speakers, motivational speakers and keynote speakers, awards hosts, presenters and conference facilitators. rounded down because I didn't reach the same level of enjoyment and laughter that I do from her actual stand-up routines. As a result of her attendance, Millican launched her comedy career and most of her initial jokes were about her failed marriage. Part autobiography, part self help, part confession, part celebration of being a common-or-garden woman, part collection of synonyms for nunny, Sarah Millican's debut book delves into her super normal life with daft stories, funny tales and proper advice on how to get past life's blips - like being good at school but not good at friends, the excitement of IBS and how to blossom post divorce. Sarah Milligan begins this book by taking you through her school years, explaining who she was as well as who she really wanted to be using witty, sometimes ironic tales.

She was married on 5 November 1997 [7] but divorced in 2004 and moved back in with her parents for two and a half years.

Also, on the 10th anniversary of the program, she hosted while regular host Noel Edmonds played for charity. And, while she touches on very real topics like her divorce, school bullying, and body issues (exacerbated by social media), she really is terribly funny, she just tells it like it is with great humor. Nothing is off the limits and while she's funny and joke a lot she can get real and get a point across. I'm not usually a fan of autobiographies but this is not a typical trawl through a celebrity's past. Personally I find this refreshing and often very funny, but if it's not your thing then this definitely isn't a book for you.
