Coats Observatory Centenary

George Adam - Paisley Town HallGeorge lodged a parliamentary motion on the centenary of the Coats Observatory.

Title: Coats Observatory

Motion Text:

That the Parliament recognises the centenary of the Coats Observatory; understands that it is the oldest public observatory in Scotland and was gifted to the people of Paisley by Thomas Coats, who was a member of one of the two main families involved in the development of the town’s thread industry; acknowledges the installation of a new state-of-the-art planetarium purchased from the Thomas Coats bequest, and congratulates everyone involved in running and supporting what it considers this historic institution, which is one of only three such observatories in the nation.
