Prepare forplacement with tips on best practice in the workplace, alongside case studies and activities that reflect real-life situations and build problem-solving skills University College Birmingham is one of the first colleges in the UK to offer the new T-level qualification, which combines learning in the classroom with gaining vital ‘on-the-job’ experience. On our two-year health course, you will learn about working within the health and science sector, good scientific and clinical practice, infection prevention and control in health-specific settings, alongside developing key practical and technical skills for the sector. In the second year, you can begin to specialise by choosing either an adult nursing or mental health nursing pathway. The purpose of the employer-set project is to ensure that students have the opportunity to apply core knowledge and skills to develop a substantial piece of work in response to an employer-set brief. The brief and tasks are Created in partnership with CACHE and written by highly respected authors Stephen Hoare, Stephanie France and Gemma Roberts, you can feel confident relying on the insights and experience of these experts. You will understand how laboratory equipment should be maintained and calibrated to generate valid results and be able to recognise errors and identify faults.

Develop your understanding of the key principles, concepts and theories, as well as the skills and confidence to succeed in your written assessment and industry placement. The student is also required to successfully achieve a distinction/merit/pass grade in one of the occupational specialism components. If the student fails to reach the specified level of attainment, they will receive a U grade. If students fail to reach the minimum standard across all sub-components, they will receive a U grade. No overall grade will be issued for the core component until both sub-components have been attempted.

The core knowledge and understanding are assessed through an examination and core skills through a practical employer-set project. In addition to this, maths, English, and general digital skills will be integrated within the qualification in occupationally relevant contexts.
