About this deal

If you don’t have Baileys, you can use any brand of Irish cream liqueur. Kahlua or other coffee liqueurs would also be delicious! We kept this recipe simple and just let the flavour of the chocolate and Baileys shine through. However, there are a couple of ways that you can flavour this Baileys hot choc so that it is different every time.

Information is not currently available for this nutrient. If you are following a medically restrictive diet, please consult your doctor or registered dietitian before preparing this recipe for personal consumption.Make sure you don't heat the Baileys, and you are just stirring it in at the end, otherwise the alcohol will burn off. Place a saucepan over medium heat. Add the cocoa powder and ¼ cup of the milk and whisk until the cocoa powder is mostly integrated. Whisk in the remaining milk until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients and heat over medium heat until the chocolate is melted, about 2 minutes. Do not boil. Chocolate topping– This could be syrup, melted chocolate, or chocolate shavings. Whatever you like best. Cook on HIGH for 1.5 hours. Stir every 30 minutes to prevent the chocolate from burning to the bottom. Milk: Any percentage milk works. The higher fat, the creamier your hot chocolate will be. For the most decadent hot chocolate, replace part of the milk with a little half and half or heavy cream.

Salt– Salt balances out the sweetness. It also enhances the flavor. It won’t make your hot chocolate salty. Break up the chocolate squares and add the slow cooker. Add the remaining ingredients (except the Baileys). Serve- Divide into mugs and serve immediately. Serve with whipped cream and cocoa powder, chocolate syrup/chocolate sauce, or chocolate shavings.

Unsweetened cocoa powder - Cocoa powder adds a rich chocolate flavor. You can use Dutch-processed cocoa powder, which is very rich and chocolatey, or standard cocoa powder. Make this 100% vegan with coconut milk hot cocoa and Baileys Almande, a sweet dairy-free liqueur that’s every bit as creamy and addictive. Ghiradelli Semi-Sweet Chocolate Baking Bars– This chocolate has great flavor and melts better than chocolate chips. Granulated Sugar (Optional)– Add sugar a tablespoon at a time, to taste. You can also leave it out. Place all of the ingredients except the Baileys into a small pot. Stir together to dissolve the cocoa powder then put on the stove on low-medium heat whisking frequently for 5 minutes to warm up.
