About this deal

If you purchase yourself an electrical supply cable, you'll be able to receive a normal A/C electrical supply just as you would at home (tents also require a mobile mains unit).

It is only a guide and the power ratings marked on your appliances should be used wherever possible. And those little garden lamps with in-built solar panels make an ideal beacon to guide you back to your tent. I've got a three socket Sunncamp EHU and have at times had a fan heater, kettle and something else all plugged in and never had a problem - yet!In a campervan, motorhome or caravan, it is very similar to receiving power to your home, however as your unit is mobile there is much higher chance of things going wrong. Quote: You probably shouldn't be running the hair straighteners and the grill at the same time, but the fridge and charging portable gadgetry is going to be nowhere like these numbers. However, it's important to understand that caravan and camping hook ups are designed for light power loads only. I'm no expert in voltage and wattage, but I do have an EHU cable and have got to know what I can get away with. You probably shouldn't be running the hair straighteners and the grill at the same time, but the fridge and charging portable gadgetry is going to be nowhere like these numbers.

Do not forget the exhaust end of the generator will get very hot and can be a hazard to children and animals and give risk of fire if it is near long grass or other flammable material. A generator can be used to provide a 230V supply where a hook-up is not available, but this route is not without its drawbacks and safety issues. A Reverse Polarity Tester will tell you if this is the case, and a Polarity Reverse Adapter will correct it. Sometimes using electricity in your tent is essential, especially if you want to heat your tent in the cooler months.

And don't forget to pass the site plug end of the cable through your tents cable entry point before you plug it into the sites power supply; trust me, it's easy to forget this! The power supply is usually either 10 amp or 16 amp so you then need to do your own calculations then.

It is fairly typical for most campsites in the UK to offer either 16A or 10A on electric hook up pitches. Simply select which size of battery you require and then use its charge accordingly, alongside rechargeable leisure batteries if needed.

The adapter will normally come with two pins and socket for an earth pin, suitable for the old French-style sockets and also side earth strips, making it suitable for old German-style sockets. Ideally your van should have a switched Residual Current Device (RCD) to protect you from a potential electric shock or fire by switching off the power in the event of a fault. When setting up with a campervan, motorhome or caravan, always connect the female end of the cable to your unit first.
