A stolen artifact from their ordeal fractures the group even further when the power of the Oasis follows them home. He explores examples of Christian creativity done well from video games to movies to music to The Lord of the Rings.

Alif drops poisonous berries in their source of fresh water on the oasis, which we're supposed to believe taints the water. This YA mystery/thriller crosses genres-survival adventure, horror, and romance-with twists worthy of JJ Abrams. When a book ends, and leaves me high and dry with figuring out “the moral of the story,” that’s when I have real issues with it. This is a celebration of an oasis - the green jewel of the desert - and the significance this has on the plant, animal and human life that depend upon it.What Robertson does well, though, is relate the intricacies of managing the friction and static caused by the push-pull nature of their relationship as they grapple with newfound fame and fortune. I found the story to be thought-evoking and enthralling, yet, I couldn’t make sense of what message was trying to be delivered to the reader. With their camp wiped away, Alif and the others find themselves lost on the sands, seemingly doomed . When the situation begins to seem desperate, they reach an oasis with crystal clean water and abundant fruit.
