This is an immaculately plotted and beautifully written thriller that is very difficult to put down, impossible to predict, deeply atmospheric and populated by memorable characters.Despite the main characters being con men, Goddard manages to paint them as redeemable as they fight for justice against those who are truly wicked or cowardly.

Perhaps, I've met too many like-minded individuals in my professional career, as those in this novel, and as such, I found them as distasteful as characters in a book as clients in a legal field, and I am not be able to recommend the book as entertaining, unless of course, one tends to enjoy saying, "Oh, there you are again, I thought I was done with you and your ilk.The Goldsboro exclusive edition of "Empire of the Damned" by Jay Kristoff will feature block sprayed. There is a good sense of the futility of it all, in that forces beyond our control repeat the horrors of history again and again. I'm a tremendous fan of Robert Goddard, and loved his Harry Barnett trilogy years ago, but this one just didn't grip me the way his books usually do, although I kept reading and did finish. I’ve enjoyed most of the authors books over the years and have a vague recollection that I listened to this book on audio tapes over 20 years ago. This is my first book review ever, and I have always wanted to comment on RG's novels as a whole, and not just about Closed Circle the book.
