About this deal

Overall, I think this is a very charming GWP. There’s plenty of fun details, and I like the fishing rod, and plenty of marine life like starfish, eels (?), a crab, fish and a parrot to keep Ray company. No seagull unlike the original design but the parrot works thematically. Dumping out the contents, you get a instructions booklet and five bags of pieces. Note that they are not numbered. However, its not unusual as this set isn’t that big. Judging Phase – Our judges review the entries and choose 15 entries, which will then go forward to a Fan Vote, on May 18th, 2021. I’m still trying to make up my mind on the SOS written in the sand. I do think it’s a fun, creative addition to a set like this. But the snakes feel out of place for me. That said, I don’t have an alternative part that would’ve worked better.

On the side of the shelter, there’s a fishing road with a fish that is caught. A yellow cup is near the shelter for Ray to sip on. The raft can be attached to the shelter too through the rope. I particularly like the use of the brown 6-pronged stalks under the palm tree's leaves to replicate its flowers. Ray the Castaway by Dadi Twins has won the LEGO Group’s official “ Do You Want To Go to the Seaside?” contest!

Finally we should talk about that roof. This was the first time in a long while that I broke a set during construction while trying to get those clips attached to that central bar. I attribute this to the new, more open design of Ray’s hut compared to Daditwins’ submitted design. With many new sets launching during its period of availability it should not be too difficult to find something to buy to acquire it. You also build a brown treasure chest. There are some red diamonds crystals inside. The treasure chest can be closed. This is the front box for the LEGO IDEAS 40566 Ray the Castaway front box. It has the recommended age, set number and number of pieces.

There are some fun techniques such as the Palm Trees, and how dense it is, giving the small beach section a very lived-in, survival vibe which translates well. Valid from October 1-13, 2022 or while supplies last. For those living in Australia, the promo gift set is now sold out at LEGO Shop at Home Australia. As a result, it holds very true to a lot of the charm and creativity that made it a winning entry, even if that means that there are no new or exclusive parts to be found here. It’s a cute little creation that tells so much of a story in so little real estate, and the fact there’s only one minifigure is part of the point. One of the only changes that is a downgrade is the seagull has come out in place of a parrot.Gift idea – This 243-piece model measures over 5 in. (14 cm) high, 7 in. (19 cm) wide and 5 in. (13 cm) deep, and makes a fun gift for adults or any LEGO® enthusiast Winners Announcement – We’ll share the Grand Prize winner and five Runner Up winners here on LEGO Ideas no later than May 31st, 2021! As you can see it's very similar to the DadiTwins' original submission. In fact the only noticeable differences are that he has a parrot rather than a seagull for company, and he's not needed to use his trousers for a sail on the raft. An SOS is spelt out on the beach, using a pair of 28588 SNAKE W/ 3.2 SHAFT NO. 1 and a lifebuoy, hoping to attract attention from above. The twins, Dave and Deigo have submitted their latest creation to the LEGO Group’s official “ Do You Want To Go to the Seaside?” contest – the submission with the most vote gets made into a set.

Ray can spend time cooking with the campfire. He has a pan and can roast the fish that he caught. A blue and yellow parrot sits on top. This is a pretty neat looking parrot. There’s also a nice big red crab nearby. Congratulations to David and Diego! Please help us in congratulating them in the comments. Photos of the incredible set: Voting Phase – LEGO Ideas members will then have the opportunity to vote once, for their favorite entry from May 18th, 2021 until May 25th, 2021. You first start building the base that consists of blue, beige and green colors. The blue represents the ocean while the beige represents the sand. The green represents some of the grass. The design is clearly an homage to Tom Hanks’ Castaway, but there isn’t a volleyball, which was also not present in the original design. I’m not sure if that was too on the nose, but it shouldn’t be too hard to add your own Wilson volleyball (especially if you draw on one!) to the set to make it a proper Tom Hanks tribute!Oh, and MASSIVE shoutout to my wife for building and photographing the set while I’m away in Billund! In this LEGO review article, we’ll review the 18+ LEGO IDEAS 40566 Ray the Castaway set (October 2022 GWP Gift Promo Set). You continue with the desert island by building the shelter and adding more details. Now, we have the fishing rod with the fish, a yellow cup, cooking pan and a small fire. Ray is fortunate to have been castaway on a very pleasant-looking island, with lush vegetation, colourful animals and vibrant blue sea surrounding it. He's been able to fashion a shelter from available resources and looks to have an abundant supply of fish for sustenance. Ray the Castaway is a fan design submitted by DadiTwins, and as you can see from the original design, has mostly kept the aesthetics and overall look, with a few small tweaks.
