About this deal

Not a first rate biography of the Kennedy House, but an informative survey of the family's ill-fated history.

According to the acknowledgments, this memoir started as "a fifty-page poem and then grew into hundreds of pages of…more poetry. This book is the same as all the previous tomes: it seems that the reading public cannot get enough gossip about the Kennedys, even if there is never anything new. All are welcome - we are a super friendly inclusive Salon and cannot wait to welcome you in for a coffee or glass of fizz! re-telling the political clan’s rise and fall and rise again (and fall again) with novelistic style” ( People). There were so many things I didn’t know, many of them fascinated me, though I was rarely shocked by some of the behaviours, although the treatment of JFK’s sister was despicable. There’s not much of serious note that other biographers and historians haven’t addressed, and much better, and the authors’ intent often seems to be simply to shame their subjects: “ ‘Kennedys don’t fail,’ his uncle Ted tells him. The Kennedys were devout Catholics, and even when Joseph, as a film studio executive, tried to convince his sometime lover Gloria Swanson to have a baby with him, he could be sure that his home life wouldn’t be disrupted. She has faced abuse and mistreatment of many kinds over the decades, but she touches on the most appalling passages lightly—though not so lightly you don't feel the torment of the media attention on the events leading up to her divorce from Tommy Lee.

Throughout her account of this kooky, messed-up, enviable, and often thrilling life, her humility (her sons "are true miracles, considering the gene pool") never fails her. House Of Kennedy Leeds Limited is an active company incorporated on 29 June 2020 with the registered office located in Leeds, West Yorkshire.Patterson and Fagen skip by the matter, though their book is chock full of other salacious and lurid moments. There are a good many unavoidably odd things about The House of Kennedy, the new book by James Patterson (with Cynthia Fagen). When I saw this collaborative effort, I could not help but wonder if this would be a slapped-together piece, full of basic information an elementary history tome could offer. What is certain is that the patriarch himself wasn’t sure how much he was worth, protesting to his wife, “How could I tell you, when I didn’t know myself? Trust the professional expertise of your hairdresser and you will find innovative L'Oréal Professionnel products to achieve the best look for you.

This is followed by descriptive reporting on Matriarch Rose, son Joe’s pre-tragedy charmed life and the sad story Kathleen and the sadder story of Rosemary. This non-fiction book co-written with Cynthia Fagen flows smoothly through several generations and dozens of the Kennedy dynasty. Fagen’s work here does much to buoy my impression of the contents and the style of writing was so easily synthesised that I may have to see what else she’s penned on the subject.
