I know Sanderson's intentions are that no book be completely dependent on understanding the full universe, but honestly I can't imagine how swamped with new information a reader would be if they came into this only knowing the Mistborn series. Physical descriptions of Ati and Leras, to start with, including clothing that struck me as very interesting.

I KNEW the second I read their names that they had to be from Arelon or Teod, but when the head woman was described as an Elantrian boyyy did I get hyped. However, Ruin intercepts and kills the messenger using Marsh, Kelsier's brother, who is now under Ruin's control.Hoid easily beats him up but doesn't actually damage his soul; Kelsier's pain is his own creation, his mind creating the pain that he expects.

He discovers that they are planning to steal Preservation's powers once he dies by using an strange artifact. In short, this isn’t the place to start your journey into Mistborn (though if you have read the trilogy – but it has been a while – you should be just fine, so long as you remember the characters and the general plot of the books). With this story Sanderson proves himself, once again, to be a complete master of the Cosmere universe. Having no weapon, he decides to just walk in on them, and they both recognize him and wonder how he's there.The seventh story in the Mistborn series is a fascinating diversion from what's gone before, revealing a secret second storyline which occurred simultaneously with the original trilogy. Kelsier has an appearance in The Bands of Mourning in a memory Wax taps from a coppermind medallion, given to him by Hoid. In the OG trilogy all that is said is that Elend didn't know that he was watching a God die, and I thought it was impactful. So Leras "preserves" him by making him part of the power of the Well, trapped, like Ruin, but "alive.

I couldn't have imagined the full scope that Sanderson would go to in this to inform you and excite you about the Cosmere Universe, and of course the fact that it was a surprise novella too was great.Succeeds at gaining God powers, but reluctantly has to admit that being a true God isn't really his shtick.
