About this deal

I don't have a problem suspending disbelief but I found the childish solutions and happy-sappy endings to be a little more than I could fathom.

At the same time, comedian Jillian Jackson is watching her career feebly played out against a succession of down-market comedy joints. The story follows Dylan O'Connor and his brother Shepherd, two unforgettable characters whose journey takes unexpected turns that challenge their perceptions of reality. What this unfathomable power is, how they can use it to stop the evil erupting all around them, and why they have been chosen are only parts of a puzzle that reaches back into the tragic past and the dark secrets they all share: secrets of madness, pain, and untimely death. Bonnie ( Stephanie Beatriz) is a successful architect living in Bushwick, Brooklyn with her boyfriend Matt ( Michael Stahl-David) who works in advertising.Ivan rushes outside and discovers a friendly, furry creature who paints warm moonlight all over the garden. Their initial sparring adds a bit of lightness to the tense plot but once they realize they've been altered by the "serum" and that they're truly on the run for their lives they learn to get along (and begin to like and respect each other) and the plot takes on a much more somber tone. Though it looks and reads like a children's book, the latest work by bestselling novelist Koontz ( Watchers , Lightning ) is being marketed for adult audiences. Holly does what she does best, and has beautiful, meaningful chats with some favourite celebrities, that of course come with a whole dollop of laughter, too.

The rest of the story is an extended chase, as Dylan and Jillian, along with Dylan's high-functioning autistic brother, Shep, dart around the West, only steps ahead of the assassins.I have read several other Dean Koontz books, so my assumptions about By the Light of the Moon were somewhat set by those experiences. Indeed, Aldrin’s images have since gone on to inspire countless artists, scientists and night-sky gazers.

Each month Holly takes a walk through the life of a celebrity guest, using the unique energy of each moon phase as their guide.

By the Light of the Moon was interesting, suspenseful and filled with characters I enjoyed and it made my stressful ride to work something I *almost* looked forward to. As the plot suggests, Koontz's new book is quite unlike anything he has written before (or, for that matter, unlike anything by his contemporaries); the highly ingenious plotting is matched by some beguilingly off-kilter characterisation and a breathtaking pace that allows for little pause. And then Dylan, a panicked and very bossy Dylan, comes into her life and instantly gets on her last nerve.

However, later on the story kind of fizzles out because every time the author develops a jam for the characters or a tough situation they just seem to solve it by the snap of their fingers. This was back in the film days, so you really had no idea if the exposures were right – not like today when you can quickly check. At first Ivan isn’t convinced that this strange place will ever feel like home, but when Moji paints some happy pictures of Ivan enjoying himself there he begins to understand that one day soon, it will. Dylan sets himself apart through his actions, and survives not through his own cunning, but also through the help of his brother and newly found friend. Koontz ( The Bad Place ) leads us a nice chase for about two-thirds of his latest thriller, after which he sinks into soap opera.
