About this deal

The first half is about the art of editing itself (and more old-style/analog editing), distilling several days worth of raw footage into a final product lasting only few hours. There’s plenty of tension, enhanced by the anonymous perspective of a young man suffering at the hands of shadowy figures, and effective twists in the plot.

I actually love how Kat plays with the characters at the start, challenging the status quo and hierarchical and gender roles, and giving us a clear view of how this team is going to work. The humour and dialogue was fabulous and you really need to believe the hype – because it’s so fresh and original that I wasn’t able to put it down. I was also lucky enough to be selected for Val McDermid's New Blood Panel at Harrogate Crime Festival, and my book was reviewed and recommended on BBC 2's Book Club show Between the Covers. It is also a study in love and grief as the reader sees Kat come to terms with the death of her husband, navigating life and issues without her best friend with her. In the Blink of an Eye explores the potential future of technology with an in-depth, unforgettabl e look at grief and humanity, and how surprisingly , one can aide the other.

Kat is requested to work alongside a new trial ‘Detective’, an initiative being pushed very heavily by Government and something that cannot be refused. We love books and love the joy of gifting and that great feeling of receiving something special every now and then, and we decided to put these together to create Booxies. It's not one of those completely out of left field resolutions that leaves you feeling cheated, more one that makes me want to read the book again to see if I could have 'made' the perpetrator any earlier. Divided into two parts, this book is essentially the sharing of a film editor from his career and the history of editing technology from his personal experience. It was exactly as described by the seller and was packaged well to prevent any damage during transit. Kat’s grief for her husband and her guilt for her teenage son were raw and emotional and it was so clear that Jo was writing this story from her heart.

The key takeaway from In The Blink of an Eye regarding audience feedback from screenings is to listen to the emotions of the audience, but not necessarily the specific feedback.A bad actor can often be spotted by the strange rhythmn of their blinking - it doesn't seem to be matching the emotional landscape of the story. Lock is the counter to Kat, he feeds are information, is able to analyse objectively and Kat can use that information to look at how it would be dealt with by fellow humans, softened or manipulated where necessary. Don’t necessarily operate on the elbow: instead, discover if nerves are being pinched somewhere else.
